MACON, Ga. – After helping their teams to 2-0 records to open Atlantic Sun play, Stetson’s Jonathan Mendoza and ETSU’s Guilherme Reis earned the A-Sun Player of the Week awards, announced Monday by the league office. Mendoza had a stellar game in the conference opener against Lipscomb by scoring two goals and assisting on the other two for a 4-0 victory, while Reis registered his second game-winning goal of the season with a strike in the 29th minute against Campbell before adding an assist in the 2-1 win against Mercer.
PLAYER OF THE WEEK:
Jonathan Mendoza, Stetson (Forward – So. – Bogota, Columbia – General Studies)
• First A-Sun Player of the Week award
• Combined for six points in a 4-0 triumph against Lipscomb with two goals and two assists
• Registered the game-winner against the Bisons
• Created the foul against Belmont that led to the game-winning penalty kick
DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK:
Guilherme Reis, ETSU (Defender – Sr. – Belo Horizonte, Brazil – Business)
• Second Career A-Sun Defensive Player of the Week award
• Scored the opening goal and game-winner in a 4-0 rout of Campbell
• Assisted on the game-tying goal in a 2-1 comeback victory against Mercer
• Led defense that held Campbell scoreless and Mercer to only five shots
OTHER NOMINEES:
• Lou Manning (GK, Belmont) – made 21 saves in three matches on the week
• Itode Fubara, ETSU (MF, ETSU) – scored a goal against Campbell in a 4-0 win
• Andreas Schnabl (GK, Stetson) – recorded shutouts of Belmont and Lipscomb
• Josey Portillo (MF, FGCU) – scored two goals and assisted on another in two Eagles’ victories
• Matthew O'Shaughnessy (D, FGCU) – commaned Eagles’ defense that allowed six shots on goal
• Jason McCabe (GK, USC Upstate) – tallied ten saves in two games on the week
• Ian Cameron (MF, Mercer) – registered a goal and an assist in two contests
