Men's Soccer Racks Up NSCAA All-Region Awards

MACON, Ga. – Eight Atlantic Sun Conference men’s soccer student-athletes were named to the National Soccer Coaches Association of America All-South Region team, announced on Wednesday. Stetson led the way for the league with three players appearing on the team with Fredrik Brustad, Ryan Corning and Jonathan Mendoza all earning honors.

FGCU’s midfielder Josey Portillo was the lone representative for the A-Sun on the first team, while his teammate Deion Jones adorned the second team as a defender after leading the Eagles to an undefeated 9-0 conference record. ETSU, the 2010 A-Sun Tournament Champions, placed Aaron Schoenfeld and Guilherme Reis onto the second team.

Brustad, the A-Sun Player of the Year, joined the previously mentioned on the second team, while his teammates, Corning and Mendoza, received third-team honors. Lipscomb’s senior forward Miguel DaSilva also garnered second team honors after finishing his career with 32 goals and 18 assists.

The Atlantic Sun Conference only trailed the Atlantic Coast Conference (12) for total players honored for the South Region by finishing ahead of the Southern Conference’s seven honorees and Conference USA’s six recipients.
