FORT MYERS, Fla. – No. 14 FGCU men’s soccer senior goalkeeper Adam Glick (Leola, Pa./Conestoga Valley HS), a unanimous selection to the Atlantic Sun preseason All-Conference team and Defensive Player of the Year, was named to the initial 30-member list for the Lowe’s Senior CLASS Award, announced by the media outlet on Wednesday.

To be eligible for the award, a student-athlete must be classified as an NCAA Division I senior and have notable achievements in four areas of excellence – community, classroom, character and competition. An acronym for Celebrating Loyalty and Achievement for Staying in School®, the Lowe’s Senior CLASS Award focuses on the total student-athlete and encourages students to use their platform in athletics to make a positive impact as leaders in their communities.

“Adam exemplifies the type of person we want all of our student-athletes to become,” said fifth-year head coach Bob Butehorn. “His dedication to the game of soccer, the FGCU program and his teammates has made him the tremendous player and person that he is today.”

The lone representative from the A-Sun Conference to appear on the list, Glick was selected to the A-Sun All-Conference first team and named the league’s Defensive Player of the Year a season ago. The goalkeeper shutout six of eight A-Sun opponents faced and held two non-conference foes scoreless, including No. 5 Ohio State. Glick topped the A-Sun in goals allowed (11), goals against average (0.62), save percentage (.853), shutouts (8) and shutouts per game (0.47), while ranking second in saves (64). He was a two-time A-Sun Defensive Player of the Week honoree, in addition to the first-ever recipient of the annual Duane Swanson Sr. Inspirational Award, given to a student-athlete that demonstrates tremendous character both on and off the field.

Highlighting his off the field character, the senior leader has suffered three major injuries only to bounce back even stronger each time. His most significant setback came in 2009 when a staph infection developed following knee surgery, requiring a four-week stay in the hospital and resulting in a 60-pound weight reduction. In addition to volunteering his time with the Boys & Girls Club of Lee County and serving on the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee, Glick is also an exceptional student, earning A-Sun All-Academic honors with 3.43 grade-point average (GPA) in marketing and management.

Each of the 30 candidate classes will be narrowed to 10 finalists midway through the regular season, and those 10 names will be placed on the official ballot. Ballots will be distributed through a nationwide voting system to media, coaches and fans, who will select one male candidate and one female candidate who best exemplify excellence in the four Cs of community, classroom, character and competition.
