MACON, Ga. – In the opening weekend of the 2011 Atlantic Sun Men’s Soccer season, ETSU’s Aaron Schoenfeld led the Buccaneers to a dominant shutout over Presbyterian with a goal and an assist, while Belmont’s senior defender T.J. Brown tallied two assists to help the Bruins to their first season-opening win since 2008.
PLAYER OF THE WEEK:
Aaron Schoenfeld, ETSU (Senior – Forward – Knoxville, Tenn. – Business)
- Second A-Sun Player of the Week award
- Scored a goal and tallied and assist in 3-0 win against Presbyterian
- Netted first goal just 11 minutes into the season
- Recorded three shots, two on goal, against PC
OTHER NOMINEES:
- Kai Eckenrode (Stetson, MF): Notched two assists against Florida Tech
- Brandon Tarr (Belmont, F): Netted game-winning goal against Missouri State with just 17 seconds left in regulation
- Tyler Williams (Jacksonville, F) Tallied a goal and game-high five shots against No. 19 UCF
- Ryan King (Mercer, MF): Scored one goal against UNC Asheville
DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK:
T.J. Brown, Belmont (Senior – Defender – Hendersonville, Tenn. – History)
- First A-Sun Defensive Player of the Week award
- Assisted on both goals in season-opening victory against Missouri State
- Helped Bruins to first 1-0 start in three years
