FGCU's Glick Named Finalist for Lowe's Senior CLASS Award

Thursday, October 06, 2011

FORT MYERS, Fla. – On Wednesday morning, the Division I men’s soccer Lowe’s Senior CLASS Award narrowed its initial 30-member list to its final 10 candidates. Among the 10 finalist for this year’s award was No. 25 FGCU redshirt senior goalkeeper Adam Glick (Leola, Pa./Conestoga Valley HS).

The finalists were chosen by a media committee from the list of 30 men’s candidates announced in August. Nationwide fan voting begins immediately to determine the winner. Fans are encouraged to vote on either the Lowe’s Senior CLASS Award website or the Lowe’s Senior CLASS Award Facebook fan page. Fan votes will be combined with media and Division I head coaches’ votes to determine the winner. Fans can vote once per day, leading up to the November 14 deadline.

Glick has been an outstanding ambassador for both the FGCU Athletics department and the men’s soccer program during his time on campus, excelling both on and off the playing field. A dual major with a 3.43 cumulative grade point average (GPA) in business management and business marketing, Glick is also a three-time A-Sun All-Academic honoree.

A three-time FGCU team captain, Glick suffered major injuries three times and has bounced back even stronger each time, with the most significant coming in 2009 when a torn meniscus resulted in a four week stay in the hospital after a staph infection caused him to lose 60 pounds. He sat out the entire 2009 season and returned in 2010 to win A-Sun Defensive Player of the Year and lead FGCU to an A-Sun regular season title.

Glick was named the frontrunner repeat his 2010 A-Sun Defensive Player of the Year and All-Conference first team selection in the 2011 preseason coaches balloting. The Leola, Pa. native led FGCU to a perfect 9-0 record in the A-Sun in 2010 en route to regular season title in just the fourth year of the program. He led the A-Sun in four categories, including shutouts with eight.

So far this season, Glick has helped the Green and Blue to a 4-3-2 record and help extend their A-Sun winning streak to 10 games following the 3-1 victory over Stetson in the league opener. Holding 35 saves and a save percentage of .766, Glick has played every minute (850) in net with a goals against average of 1.16 with a pair of shutouts. Additionally, he is the program’s all-time leader in every keeper statistical category, holding 30 wins and 18 shutouts in three-plus seasons. Glick is currently tied for third in league history in shutouts with 18, five away from the all-time record.

Outside the playing arena, Glick has been equally as active. The redshirt senior is a Boys & Girls Club of Lee County mentor and a Toys for Tots and Salvation Army volunteer since 2007. He has also been an American Heart Association/American Red Cross fundraiser participant, an American Cancer Society Relay for Life fundraiser and participant, and a local soccer instructor since 2007. Glick also served as the men’s soccer representative on the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) and was on the NCAA Steering Committee as a Student-Athlete representative during FGCU Division I reclassification period.
