FGCU Locks In First-Round Bye for A-Sun Championship

Thursday, October 27, 2011

FORT MYERS, Fla. - With the 2-1 win against Jacksonville on Thursday night, FGCU captured one of two first-round byes in the 2011 A-Sun Men's Soccer Championship hosted by ETSU in Johnson City, Tenn.

The win moved the Eagles to 6-1 on the year with 18 points and at this point can only be passed by either Stetson or Jacksonville, but not both. The Dolphins drop to 5-1-1 in A-Sun play with their first loss of the conference slate.

FGCU captured the 2010 A-Sun Regular-Season title with an undefeated mark of 9-0 and will be looking to lock up its second straight-title with a win against North Florida on Sunday. The Eagles need only a tie to guarantee a share of the regular-season title.
