MACON, Ga. - FGCU's Felipe DeSousa netted two goals to earn Atlantic Sun Men's Soccer Player of the Week, while ETSU's Ryan Coulter and USC Upstate's Daniel Alvarado split the defensive honor as announced Monday by the league office.
The Eagles' freshman earned his first player of the week title after coming off the bench and scoring in overtime to defeat Jacksonville. Coulter and Alvarado both grabbed their fifth shutout of the season in net.
PLAYER OF THE WEEK:
Felipe DeSousa, FGCU (F – Fr. –Vila Velha, Brazil)
- First Career A-Sun Player of the Week honor
- Scored two goals in FGCU's 3-2 victory over Jacksonville
- Netted his second goal of the game in the 105th minute of the double overtime
- Leads the team with five goals and 11 points despite playing just nine games
OTHER NOMINEES:
- Rene Reyes (F, Jacksonville) - Scored game winning goal against Mercer
- David Geno (F, ETSU) - Tallied a goal and two assists in the Buccaneer game against NKU
- Nick Toney (MF, Northern Kentucky) - Came off the bench to net game winner against Stetson
- Dave Musambi (F, USC Upstate) - Grabbed OT goal for the Spartans against Lipscomb
DEFENSIVE Co-PLAYER OF THE WEEK:
Ryan Coulter, ETSU (GK – Jr. – Dublin, Coulter – Interdisciplinary Studies)
- Fourth Career A-Sun Defensive Player of the Week honor
- Recorded his fifth shutout of the season in the 3-0 win against Northern Kentucky
- Secured three saves in goal for the Buccaneers
- Has held A-Sun opponents to just three goals through five games
DEFENSIVE Co-PLAYER OF THE WEEK:
Dani Alvarado, USC Upstate (GK – So. – Leander, Texas – Graphic Design)
- Second Career A-Sun Defensive Player of the Week honor
- Grabbed three saves in USC Upstate's 1-0 victory over Lipscomb
- Notched his fifth shutout of the season for the Spartans
- The win allowed Upstate to improve to 3-2 with nine points in the A-Sun
