FGCU Tops Mercer for No. 1 Seed, Championship Field Set

MACON, Ga. – Florida Gulf Coast men's soccer won its showdown on the road with Mercer, 1-0, to claim its third straight regular season title and the No. 1 seed in the A-Sun Men's Soccer Championship. The remainder of the field has also been set for the championship that begins Nov. 7 in Ft. Myers, Fla.

Defending its 2011 A-Sun Championship, FGCU occupies the top spot followed by No. 2 Mercer, No. 3 ETSU, No. 4 USC Upstate, No 5 Lipscomb and No. 6 Jacksonville.

The A-Sun Men's Soccer Championship begins at 4 p.m. on Wednesday, Nov. 7, with Jacksonville facing ETSU, followed at 7 p.m. by Lipscomb vs. USC Upstate.

On Friday, Nov. 9, FGCU will host the winner of Lipscomb/USC Upstate at 7 p.m., while Mercer takes on the ETSU/Jacksonville winner at 4 p.m.

The championship final will be played at 1 p.m. on Sunday, Nov. 11. (All times Eastern)

In other Saturday action, Lipscomb and Jacksonville picked up wins in their final regular season games while ETSU and USC Upstate played to a 1-1 draw. Jacksonville's Matheus Saroli scored twice in the Dolphins' 5-1 victory over North Florida to lead all players, while the Spartans' Dani Alvarado led all goalkeepers with 11 saves.

The final game of the regular season is Sunday as Stetson travels to Georgia State.
