MACON, Ga. – For the third-straight season, Atlantic Sun men’s soccer teams hosted the Coaches vs. Cancer event to raise awareness and funds for the American Cancer Society. This season, all nine teams combined to raise 6,051 dollars to donate to the society with Lipscomb totaling a three-year high of 2,000 dollars.

All nine teams picked one conference match to serve as their Coaches vs. Cancer contest in which they auctioned off a framed autographed jersey by the team to promote the event and raise money.

Mercer followed the Bisons with $1,200 raised with ETSU following the Bears at 830 dollars. Over the past two seasons, A-Sun teams have raised $12,401 for the American Cancer Society. LU also raised the most money last season with $1,300. North Florida ($630) and Stetson ($530) rounded out the top-five for funds raised.

“For all nine of our men’s soccer teams to come together for the common purpose of raising awareness and money for Coaches vs. Cancer showcases the commitment of our member institutions to Building Winners for Life,” stated Atlantic Sun Conference Commissioner Ted Gumbart. “We look forward to the event continuing to build in popularity and success over the coming years.”

The inaugural Coaches vs. Cancer event in 2010 had five benefit games held over one weekend with a goal of raising awareness of cancer, acknowledging survivors at half time and honoring those who lost their lives to cancer. In 2011, A-Sun teams combined for 6,350 dollars.
