Lipscomb Grabs 1-0 Win to Head to the #ASunMSoc Semifinal

Wednesday, November 13, 2013

FORT MYERS, Fla. - Lipscomb's goal by Luke Gearin in the 61st minute proved to be enough as the Bisons defeated Jacksonville 1-0 in the first round of the Atlantic Sun Men's Soccer Championship. Lipscomb will face off with second-seeded ETSU in the first semifinal match to be played at the FGCU Soccer Complex on Friday, November 15th at 4 p.m. EST.

Lipscomb scored off a corner kick play where Zander El-Hindi served a ball back in the box and Gearin’s header ball placed it in the back of the net to provide the difference in this one.

Jacksonville mounted a challenge with LU playing a man down following a soft red card to A-Sun Player of the Year Omar Djabi, but the Bisons stood up to the challenge and held off the Dolphins in the closing moments.

The two teams matched each other shot for shot posting nine each. Lipscomb’s Micah Bledsoe made four saves while Gavin Carlin made two for Jacksonville. Bledsoe collected his sixth shutout of the season between the pipes for the Bisons.

LU had the advantage in corner kicks in the match with seven compared to Jacksonville's two corner kicks.

This marks LU's second consecutive trip to the A-Sun Championship Semifinal after the Bisons collected a 1-0 victory vs. USC Upstate in the first round of the 2012 championship.

The second match of the evening will feature North Florida and Mercer with the winner advancing to play this season’s host-school FGCU at 7 p.m. EST on Friday.
