MACON, Ga. - Stetson's Robert Hodge and Campbell's Richard Jata paced their team to momentum building wins to conclude the regular season and claimed the final weekly men’s soccer honors as announced by the Atlantic Sun Conference office on Monday.
Hodge anchored the Hatters' back line and led the team to their fifth shutout of the season. In the 1-0 win against Georgia Southern, the Hatters' defense allowed just four shots and one shot on goal. The sophomore capped a great match by scoring the game-winning goal with a solid header off a corner kick. The Devon, England, native majors in General Studies. With the win, Stetson enters the A-Sun Championship on a six-match unbeaten streak (4-0-2) and will receive a bye into the semifinals on virtue of claiming the tournament’s No. 2 seed. The Hatters will face the winner of the No. 3 Campbell versus No.6 Gardner-Webb match-up.
Jata had an assist and just missed a first-half strike when his shot hit the right post in Campbell's 2-1 loss to UNC Greensboro. The junior midfielder added a goal in a 3-2 win over High Point in the regular season finale. The Camels are 11-0-0 all-time when Jata scores since the 2006 season. He ran his season scoring tally to 16 points on six goals and four assists to move into 9th place in the A-Sun scoring charts. Jata has at least one point in each of CU's last three games and has helped lead the Camels to a 4-1-1 record over their last six games heading into the A-Sun Championship. No. 3 Campbell will face in-state rival No. 6 Gardner-Webb in the first round of the conference championship on Wednesday.
