Bisons top UNC Asheville 3-1 to win Brentwood Invitational

NASHVILLE, Tenn. - If you are going to host your first tournament then you might as well win it.
Such was the situation for the Lipscomb Bisons who beat UNC-Asheville 3-1 to win the Hyatt Place Select-Brentwood Invitational at the Lipscomb soccer complex. The Bisons also beat Presbyterian 2-0 Friday night.
It is the first time in the NCAA era that the Bisons have won a tournament championship.
In Sunday's game neither team scored in the first half. Freshman goalkeeper Patrick Walsh turned away three shots by UNC-Asheville in the half. In the second half freshman Brent McGee was in goal for the Bisons and allowed one goal while making three saves.
Freshman forward Garret Pettis scored the first goal of the game for the Bisons with an assist to midfielder Andre Santos at 56:32 of the second half.
UNC-Asheville tied the game at 1-1 on a goal by Alex Morrow with an assist to Nathan Neal at 80:12.
Freshman forward Andrew Chamberlain gave the Bisons a 2-1 lead 42 seconds later as he scored from in front of the net on a rebound of a shot by forward Miguel DaSilva. Both DaSilva and freshman midfielder David Dermody earned assists.
At the 86:55 mark the Bisons iced the game as DaSilva beat two defenders and got behind UNC-Asheville goalkeeper Lassi Hurskainen. Freshman midfielder Eric Duarte earned the assist.
The Bisons had eight shots on goal. UNC-Asheville made seven attempts.
All-Tournament team members from Lipscomb were Pettis, Kezi Lara, DaSilva and Chamberlain. Pettis was named the tournament MVP.
Rounding out the All-Tournament team were Bryan George, Patrick Tate and Morrow from UNC-Asheville, Brett Parker and Will Moorad from Belmont and Chris Broph and Stevenson Gravlee from Presbyterian College.
