JACKSONVILLE, Fla. - Senior forward Ramak Niakan Safi continues to be clutch off the bench as he scored the game-winning goal to help the JU men’s soccer team down Atlantic Sun and cross-town rival UNF, 1-0, on Sunday night at Hodges Stadium.
With the win, the Dolphins (9-7, 6-1) evened the standings in the annual SunTrust River City race and regained the Dennis Violett Memorial Cup to bring back to the JU campus. The Dolphins also held the Ospreys (7-9, 3-4) to six shots to earn their second consecutive shutout and their eight A-Sun road win in the last nine matches.
"That was a huge win," said JU head coach Mike Johnson. “Not only did we defeat our rival, but we continue to keep pace in the top of the A-Sun standings. I was proud of the way our guys fought tonight. We still have to keep this momentum rolling and see how far we can take it us.”
Less than two minutes before the half, senior defender Philipp Meyner delivered a cross toward the JU box which Niakan Safi headed in for his fifth goal of the season to give the Dolphins’ game winner.
