Macon, Ga. - Stetson's Marcus Echtler was named Atlantic Sun Men's Tennis Player
of the Week today after leading the Hatters to an undefeated week.
The sophomore from Venice, Fla., helped Stetson to a 5-0 mark as he went undefeated
with a 4-0 singles and a 5-0 doubles showing. In singles play, he earned a 6-2,
6-4 win against Radford's Martin Sayer, who is ranked 22nd. It was the highest
ranked singles win in Stetson history. He also knocked off another ranked opponent
in #8 Washington College (Div. III). Echtler defeated #20 Arturo Solis in straight
sets, 6-3, and 7-5.
He also earned wins against OVC defending champion Jacksonville State, while
improving to 10-5 in singles and 10-6 in doubles play.
The Atlantic Sun Conference announces the Player of the Week every Tuesday during
the 2006 men's tennis campaign.
The 11-member league headquartered in Macon, Ga., consists of Belmont, Campbell,
ETSU, Florida Atlantic, Gardner-Webb, Jacksonville, Kennesaw State, Lipscomb,
Mercer, North Florida and Stetson.
