Jacksonville Advances to First Round in Men's Tennis Tournament

Macon, Ga. -- After going 0-15 the entire season, the Jacksonville men's tennis team (1-16, 0-5 A-Sun) did the unthinkable as the ninth seed, upending No. 8 Florida Atlantic (1-20, 1-4 A-Sun), 4-2, Wednesday in the 2006 Tennis Championship held at the John Drew Smith Tennis Center.

The Dolphins benefited from three forfeited matches by FAU. JU claimed the doubles point as Marcos Oliveira and Clay Garrett won at number one against Akin Akman and Mauricio Paiz.

Tim Newman (JU) registered a victory at no. 4 singles over Keegan Peterson (FAU) to clinch the victory.

The Dolphins will advance to the first round to take on top-seeded ETSU (18-6, 8-0 A-Sun) Thursday, April 13 at 9 a.m.
