Macon, Ga. -- ETSU's Lisandro Picardo has been named the Atlantic Sun Player of the Week, league officials announced today, after posting a 2-1 record in singles play and assisting his team to a 3-1 overall record during the first week of competition.

Lisandro, a Sport Management major from Mar del Plata, Argentina, defeated East Carolina's Bryan Oakley and Temple's Gonzalo De Villa, both in straight sets. Both victories were team wins as well before Sebastian Deridder and No. 14 Virginia Commonwealth handed Picardo and ETSU their first losses of the season. The ETSU junior defeated Oakley 6-2, 6-2 and took down De Villa 6-2, 6-3 before losing to VCU's Deridder. Lisandro did not go down without a fight however, dropping the match 6-3, 7-6.

The honor is just the second for a student-athlete from ETSU and the first of its kind for Lisandro.

The Atlantic Sun Player of the Week is announced every Tuesday during the 2007 tennis season.

The 12-member league headquartered in Macon, Ga., consists of Belmont, Campbell, ETSU, Gardner-Webb, Jacksonville, Kennesaw State, Lipscomb, Mercer, UNF and Stetson with Florida Gulf Coast and USC Upstate beginning competition in 2007-08.
