Wednesday, February 24, 2010 MACON, Ga. – Belmont’s Renato Antun finished the week with perfect 3-0 marks both in singles and doubles. For his performance, Antun claimed the first A-Sun Player of the Week award of his career, the conference office announced on Wednesday. Antun finished the week with a 3-0 mark in singles and a 3-0 tally in doubles as he helped the Bruins to a 3-0 record over the weekend. Belmont beat Dayton, 6-1, on Friday and then defeated NJIT, 5-2, and Northern Kentucky, 5-2, on Saturday. In singles, the sophomore from Sao Paolo, Brazil went 3-0 at No. 2 and No. 3 singles, winning all three in straight sets. Other Top Performers Gokalp Ozdemir, Kennesaw State (Fr. - No. 4 Singles/Doubles - Ankara, Turkey - Undeclared) – After not playing above five in singles all season, Ozdemir made his debut at No. 4 singles against No. 73 powerhouse USC Upstate and came away with a straight set win. For the week, Ozdemir was perfect in singles and split a pair of doubles matches. Davy Sum, Campbell (Jr. - No. 1 Singles/Doubles - Strasbourg, France - Business Administration) – Sum led Campbell to a 2-0 mark on the week. On Friday afternoon, the junior defeated Longwood's Nobu Tanaka, 6-7, 6-4, 6-2 and teamed with Dominik Kaniewski to defeat the duo of Billy Heird and Marc Ferrigno, 8-6, to help the Camels defeat the Lancers, 5-2. On Saturday, Sum defeated Siim Tuus of Liberty 4-6, 6-0, 6-0. The doubles team of Sum and Kaniewski knocked off the Liberty duo of Tuus and Tristan Stayt, 8-6, to help the Camels defeat the Flames, 4-3. |
