Camels Defeat Dolphins in A-Sun Men's Tennis Opener

DeLAND, FL – Fourth-seeded Campbell won the doubles point and then picked up three convincing straight set wins as the Camels rolled to a 4-1 win over fifth-seeded Jacksonville in the first quarterfinal match of the Atlantic Sun Conference Men’s Tennis Championships Thursday morning at the Mandy Stoll Tennis Center. Loukas Wallaart won in singles and doubles for the Camels.

Larbi Lamzouri and Josep Baro cruised to an 8-1 win over Jaime Esteban and Logan Shalmi at #2 doubles, quickly followed by an 8-4 win at the #3 spot from Wallaart and Beto Mondini over Pitt von Oertzen and Victor Vaz.

Shalmi drew the Dolphins within 2-1 with a 6-4, 6-2 #6 singles win over Ondrej Kralik, but the Camels closed out the victory with three straight two-set victories. Wallaart beat von Oertzen 6-2, 6-2 at the #5 slot, David Clavera swept Esteban 6-4, 6-2 at #4 singles and Davy Sum bounced Vaz 6-2, 6-3 at the top of the lineup to close it out.

The Camels advance to tomorrow’s semifinals to take on top-seeded ETSU at 9 a.m. Friday. UNF takes on Belmont in the second men’s quarterfinal match with that winner to face second-seeded host Stetson at 11:30 a.m. Friday in the other semifinal.
