MACON, Ga. – USC Upstate’s Ramiro Blanco and UNF’s Aline Berkenbrock earned their third career Atlantic Sun Tennis Player of the Week awards, announced Wednesday by the league office. Blanco led the Spartan charge past Stetson and FGCU, while Berkenbrock and the Ospreys defeated ETSU and Charlotte on the week.
MEN’S PLAYER OF THE WEEK:
Ramiro Blanco, USC Upstate (Jr. – Chascomus, Argenitna – Business Administration)
• Third Career A-Sun Player of the Week award
• 4-0 on the week with all coming in conference play against Stetson and FGCU
• Bested Stetson’s Cesare Gallo (4-6, 7-5, 6-3) and FGCU’s Matthew Rock (7-6, 1-6, 6-3)
• Teamed with Matias Di Pasquale to earn two victories at No. 1 Doubles
• Helped Spartans to a 2-0 week in A-Sun play
OTHER NOMINEES:
• Ryan Spencer (Fr., Kennesaw State) – Finished week with a 3-1 record, including wins in first two conference matches
• Oliver Strecker (Fr., Lipscomb) – Extended win streak to seven matches with wins against Mercer and Kennesaw State
• Juan Ramirez (So., ETSU) – On a five-match winning streak in singles play including wins against UNF and Georgetown
• Moritz Buerchner (So., UNF) – Defeated A-Sun Preseason Player of the Year, Sander Gille, form ETSU
WOMEN’S PLAYER OF THE WEEK:
Aline Berkenbrock, UNF (Jr. – Sao Bernardo de Campo, Brazil – Nutrition)
• Third Career A-Sun Player of the Week award
• Earned pair of victories at No. 1 singles against ETSU and Charlotte
• Added two wins at No. 1 doubles to help Ospreys to a 2-0 record on the week
OTHER NOMINEES:
• Karina Kedzo (Jr., ETSU) – Finished week at 3-0 at No. 4 singles with wins against UNF, Jacksonville and Florida Atlantic
• Alexandra Apostu (Fr., Kennesaw State) – Led Owls to two A-Sun wins at Belmont and Lipscomb and a team victory against Austin Peay
