Camels, Hatters Improve A-Sun Standings; Take Awards

MACON, Ga. – Campbell’s Dominik Kaniewski and Stetson’s Carolina de los Santos earned their first career Atlantic Sun Conference Player of the Week awards, announced Wednesday by the league office. Kaniewski claimed wins against Jacksonville and UNF to increase his win streak to eight and improve the Camels to 10-2 on the year, while de los Santos led the Hatters on a three-match road swing through the Peach State to earn three victories at No. 1 singles.
 
MEN’S PLAYER OF THE WEEK:
Dominik Kaniewski, Campbell (So. – Bydgoszcz, Poland – Math)
• First Career A-Sun Player of the Week award
• Earned two singles victories and two doubles wins against Jacksonville and UNF
• Currently on a eight-game winning streak to improve season record to 9-1
• Defeated JU’s Logan Shalmi (6-3, 6-0) and UNF’s Beauregard Treyz (6-2, 6-2)
• Helped Camels achieve an ITA team ranking on No. 68 in the nation

OTHER NOMINEES:
• Ryan Spencer (Fr., Kennesaw State) – Remained perfect in conference play with a 5-0 record
• Sander Gille (Jr., ETSU) – Claimed victories against Belmont and Lipscomb to improve Bucs to 4-1 in league play
• Ramiro Blanco (Jr., USC Upstate) – Earned two wins on the week at No. 2 singles against JU and UNF

WOMEN’S PLAYER OF THE WEEK:
Carolina de los Santos, Stetson (So. – Montevideo, Uruguay – Marketing)
• First Career A-Sun Player of the Week award
• Led Hatters to three wins in Georgia last week at Georgia Southern, Kennesaw State and Mercer
• Dropped just seven total games en route to a 3-0 week at No. 1 singles
• Improved individual record to 10-2 in singles and 11-1 in doubles
• Hatters improved record to 12-1 and 4-1 in A-Sun

OTHER NOMINEES:
• Karolina Chernaya (Fr., Campbell) – Riding a five-game winning streaking after earning wins against JU and UNF
• Alexandra Apostu (Fr., Kennesaw State) – Continued undefeated run in A-Sun play with an 8-0 mark in four matches
