Visit ASunStore.com for Championship Apparel Tuesday, April 12, 2011 MACON, Ga. – Campbell’s Davy Sum concluded his senior season in impressive fashion with a 20-0 No. 1 singles mark including a 10-0 record in Atlantic Sun Conference play. Sum’s efforts earned him unanimous honors as the A-Sun Men’s Tennis Player of the Year and his fourth-straight first team honors. Fernando Guillen became the Camels’ second student-athlete to win Freshman of the Year after finishing the season 15-5 and 5-3 at No. 3 singles in league play. Guillen joins Sum, who claimed the same honor in 2008. ETSU and UNF, who split the A-Sun Regular Season title, placed five total players on the All-Conference First Team. The Bucs’ Sander Gille, Jesus Bandres and Grega Teraz adorned the team after a 9-1 conference record and 15-6 overall. For Gille and Teraz, it is their second-straight first team honors, while Bandres followed up his all-freshman season last year to land on the first team. Moritz Buerchner and Hleb Maslau mirrored Sum with unanimous selections to the first team by leading the Ospreys to their first men’s tennis A-Sun title. Buerchner becomes a two-time first team selection, while Maslau earns his first A-Sun honor. Lipscomb’s Oliver Strecker became the Bisons first-ever A-Sun First Team member and first Lipscomb player to earn all-conference honors since 2006 when current LU Head Coach Andrew Harris and Mike Sherman adorned the second team. After two-straight second team all-conference selections, USC Upstate’s Ramiro Blanco stepped up to the first team following an 8-1 conference mark at No. 2 singles. Stetson’s Njal Stene rounded out the all-conference first team with his 4-1 A-Sun record at No. 3 singles. Eight teams placed first-year players on the all-freshman team with UNF’s Pedro Davisson and Beauregard Treyz leading the charge, while the Ospreys’ Head Coach Igal Buberman became the first UNF men’s tennis coach to earn A-Sun Coach of the Year.
