BRISTOL, Tenn. – With rain keeping Friday’s Atlantic Sun Men's Tennis Championships quarterfinal action indoors, No. 6 Lipscomb earned a sweep vs. No. 3 Stetson for the Bisons' first-ever win at the conference championship at the Bristol Country Club.

The Bisons got on the board quickly in doubles with an 8-6 victory from Colby Shaw and John Tougher over SU’s Nathan Debut and Cahit Kapukiran. LU’s Stuart Tierney and Miguel Cortez followed with an 8-3 triumph over Laurynas Antropikas and Hans Adrian Riseng to capture the doubles point.

With a lead in hand, the Bisons didn’t look back. Daniel Hernandez proceeded to top Antropikas 6-4, 6-3, while Strecker followed with a 6-1, 7-6 (7-1) victory against Berg.

As LU built up a 3-0 advantage, on court four Tierney and Kapukiran were in the midst of a battle that eventually went to three sets. Kapukiran took the first set 6-2, but Tierney stormed back and shut out his opponent, 6-0, in set No. 2 to set up the tiebreaking third set. Back-and-forth action was evident throughout before Tierney surged to capture a 6-4 decision which tallied a 4-0 match victory for Lipscomb versus Stetson.

The Bisons will move on to semifinal action tomorrow when they face the No. 2 seed ETSU Buccaneers at the ETSU Tennis Complex at 5:30 p.m.
