JOHNSON CITY, Tenn. – The No.1 seed North Florida Ospreys lived up to their billing with a 4-0 victory over the No. 4 seed FGCU Eagles in Atlantic Sun Championship semifinal action on Saturday afternoon at the ETSU Tennis Complex.

UNF gained the upper hand to begin the matchup by taking the point in highly-competitive doubles action. UNF’s duo of Daniel Sotomarino and Leonardo Nahar took care of FGCU’s Jackson Moore and Michael Beiler early with an 8-2 decision. On courts two and three, a couple hotly-contested matchups were in progress as well.

On court one, the nationally-ranked Osprey duo of Moritz Buerchner and Norbert Nemcsek fell behind 7-4 to Dean Tsamas and Jordi Vives before battling back to knot things up at seven. Meanwhile on the second court, UNF’s Julien Belair and Timo Kranz went up 7-5 on FGCU’s Tianyu Bao and Lance Lvovsky, but the Eagles’ pair responded to tie it up at seven. Before the other tight matchup could finish, Belair and Kranz fired back and won the next two games to give them a 9-7 win which allowed UNF to capture the all-important doubles point.

In singles play, the Ospreys took control from the jump. On court four, Nemcsek took down Moore down in straight sets, 6-1, 6-2, to gain UNF’s first singles point and second point overall. Kranz followed by blanking Beiler 6-0 in the first set and 6-3 in the second. Searching for the match-clinching point on court three, Belair closed Tsamas out 6-2, 6-2 which tallied a 4-0 match victory for North Florida over Florida Gulf Coast.

Top-seeded UNF will move on to face the winner of No. 2 ETSU and No. 6 Lipscomb in the A-Sun Championship finals on Sunday at the ETSU Tennis Complex. Finals action is set to begin at 1 p.m. tomorrow afternoon.
