Olivares Nabs First Weekly Tennis Honor of 2008

MACON, Ga. - ETSU junior Enrique Olivares opened his spring season with a pair of victories at the Virginia Commonwealth 4x1 Invitational last weekend, leading the defending Atlantic Sun Conference champion Buccaneers to sweeps of Navy and Longwood and on Friday earned the first Atlantic Sun Player of the Week Award of 2008 the conference office announced.

The Venezuela native picked up a pair of straight set victories on the weekend, defeating Nate Nelms (Navy) 7-5, 6-2 and David Cardoso (Longwood) 6-3, 6-2. The business major paired with Sebastian Serrano in doubles action, and knocked off Zach Tobias and Lawrence Caprio (Temple) 6-0, 6-1. Olivares ranks #49 nationally, and he and partner Serrano have earned a #33 ranking in doubles.

The Atlantic Sun Conference is a 12-member league committed to Building Winners for Life, with a focus on academic and athletic integrity and a balance between the two for the student-athlete, and maintaining a high level of sportsmanship. Headquartered in Macon, Ga., the A-Sun encompasses six of the top eight media markets in the Southeast. The A-Sun consists of some of the most dynamic private and public institutions in the region: Belmont University, Campbell University, East Tennessee State University, Florida Gulf Coast University, Gardner-Webb University, Jacksonville University, Kennesaw State University, Lipscomb University, Mercer University, University of North Florida, University of South Carolina Upstate and Stetson University.

Other Top Performer:

Gabriel Delarue, Campbell (Sr. – Merlimont, France – Business Administration) – Was 2-0 on the week, with wins against Drexel's Joe Koebele 6-2, 6-4, and Navy's Johnny Waters 7-6, 7-5.
