Gardner-Webb Qualifies Two for NCAA East Regional

Gardner-Webb's Elliott Haynie and Jake Didion broke school records and earned East Regional qualifying marks as the Bulldogs competed on the final day of the Winthrop Asics Invitational.

Elliott Haynie shattered not only the school record, but also the meet and facility record in the pole vault with his first-place effort of 5.05m (16-6 3/4), earning a spot at the coveted East Regional Championships. Teammate Jeremy Longshore took second in the event after clearing 4.86m (15-11 1/4).

Jake Didion established a school record with his East Regional qualifying mark in the triple jump. Didion’s first-place jump was 15.44m (50-8). Didion continued his busy day as he placed third in the high jump after clearing the bar at 1.98m (6-6).

Jerel Langley garnered a first-place finish in the javelin with a throw of 52.90m (173-7); Haynie was third in the event (47.96m; 157-4) while Justin O'Shields finished eighth with a mark of 42.00m (137-9).

Speedsters Geoff Lesch-Wragge and Erin Goodrum were neck and neck until the final strides in the 800-meter run. Lesch-Wragge finished seventh in 1:57.60 while Goodrum placed eighth in 1:57.99.

The 1,600-meter relay team that consisted of Paul Steinke, Ryan McNeely, Goodrum and Charles Steinke, crossed the line in 3:30.22, resulting in an eighth-place effort.
