Wednesday, April 04, 2007 Macon, Ga. -- Gardner-Webb's Elliott Haynie joined a growing number of A-Sun student-athletes to qualify for the NCAA East Regional. Haynie bested a school, meet, and facility record at the Winthrop Invite and has been selected as the Atlantic Sun Athlete of the Week for his efforts, league officials announced today. Haynie, a sophomore from Fairburn, Ga., cleared the 16-6 3/4 mark in the pole vault to earn top honors at the meet. His height in the event not only shattered the school record, but Haynie also set new records for the meet and facility. The 16-6 3/4 clearance also surpassed the A-Sun Championship Meet record by over a foot. The award is the first of its kind for Haynie. The Atlantic Sun Athlete of the Week is announced every Wednesday during the 2007 track season. The 12-member league headquartered in Macon, Ga., consists of Belmont, Campbell, ETSU, Gardner-Webb, Jacksonville, Kennesaw State, Lipscomb, Mercer, UNF and Stetson with Florida Gulf Coast and USC Upstate beginning competition in 2007-08.
