Wednesday, April 18, 2007 Macon, Ga. -- For the second time this season Campbell's Sam Tilly has been selected as the Atlantic Sun Athlete of the Week following a performance in which he posted the nation's fourth best long jump of the season, league officials announced today. Tilly, a junior from Port Charlotte, Fla., recorded his jump of 25-2 3/4 at the Carolina Fast Times on Saturday in Chapel Hill, N.C., on Saturday. He leap earned him a first place finish at the event and currently stands at the nation's fourth longest mark. The sport management major also posted a second place finish in the triple jump, extending the tape to 48 1/2. The award is both the second of the season and career for Tilly. The Atlantic Sun Athlete of the Week is announced every Wednesday during the 2007 track season. The 12-member league headquartered in Macon, Ga., consists of Belmont, Campbell, ETSU, Gardner-Webb, Jacksonville, Kennesaw State, Lipscomb, Mercer, UNF and Stetson with Florida Gulf Coast and USC Upstate beginning competition in 2007-08. |
