Courtesy UpstateSpartans.com Wednesday, April 16, 2008 MACON, Ga. - Perrish Goggins of USC Upstate placed in the top-three in three events at the Furman Invitational this weekend in winning his first Atlantic Sun Men's Outdoor Track and Field Athlete of the Week award, the conference announced Wednesday. Goggins won the long jump, placed second in the high jump and finished third in the 100-meter dash. Goggins, a freshman computer science major from Columbia, S.C., won the long jump with a leap of 21-10.50 (6.66m) to edge out teammate Marc Wartenberger, who finished second. In the high jump, Goggins cleared a height of 06-06.00 (1.98m), the same height cleared by the event’s winner. His third-place effort came in the 100-meters, completing the event in a time of 11.32. Following his three-medal performance at Furman, Goggins now has seven top-five finishes in four different events this season. The Atlantic Sun Conference is a 12-member league committed to Building Winners for Life, with a focus on academic and athletic integrity and a balance between the two for the student-athlete, and maintaining a high level of sportsmanship. Headquartered in Macon, Ga., the A-Sun encompasses six of the top eight media markets in the Southeast.
