Wednesday, May 12, 2010 MACON, Ga. - ETSU’s Duronal Monal grabbed Atlantic Sun Track Athlete of the Week honors after lowering his conference leading time in the 100-meter dash, while teammate Jordan Brigg earned Field honors. Monal, a senior native of Belle Glade, Fla., made the most of his final meet before competing in next weekend’s Atlantic Sun Championship, by capturing titles in both the 100m and 200m Saturday afternoon at the UT Invitational from Tom Black Track in Knoxville. Monal, who boasts the top times in both sprints among conference competitors, recorded a season best mark of 10.26 in the 100m and a lifetime best of 20.75 in the 200m. The 200-meter time will not count in the record book or for qualifying because it was wind-aided. Briggs, a native of Erwin, Tenn., made his final tune up before competing in this weekend’s Atlantic Sun Conference Championships by stringing together strong efforts at the UT Invitational Saturday afternoon in Knoxville. Briggs turned in his fastest time this season (15.73) to finish second in the 110m hurdles. Briggs’ day didn’t end in the hurdles as he made his final preparations for next weekend’s conference championship. The senior mutlis athlete finished third in the pole vault after tying his season best mark of 15-01 (4.60m). Briggs also came away with his longest leap in the long jump after propelling his way up the conference performance charts with a distance of 21-08.25 (6.61m) – moving him from 13th to eighth among A-Sun competitors.
