NEW ORLEANS – Jacksonville's champion women's track & field team as well as Lipscomb's men and women earned All-Academic Track & Field teams honors from the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association.

The Lipscomb men finished with the second-best grade point average in NCAA Division I in the list of Indoor and Outdoor Scholar Teams/ The Bisons posted a GPA of 3.39. Yale led the nation with a 3.42. The Lipscomb women recorded the fifth-highest grade point average in NCAA Division I of 3.51 to rank fifth in the nation. Oklahoma led the nation at 3.62. Lipscomb University was the only NCAA Division I school to have both men and women ranked in the top five nationally.

This latest ranking continues a tradition of academic excellence for Lipscomb University men's and women's cross country and track & field. Both teams have earned All-Academic distinction each of the past three years, ranking in the top 35 nationally every year (usually in the top 10) and leading the A-Sun conference in all four sports ranking as high as first in 2008 (tie with Yale).

Winning all three Atlantic Sun Conference titles during the 2009-10 season was an amazing feat for the JU track & field team, but the Dolphins work in the classroom continues to be equally impressive as they received their ninth consecutive USTFCCCA All-Academic team honor.

The Dolphins, who became the A-Sun’s first “Triple Crown” Winner this season, earned the accolade after posting a 3.17 team cumulative grade point average for the 2009-10 academic year.
