MACON, Ga. – UNF’s Ecaterina Gheorghiu and Ann Demi swept the women’s side of the Atlantic Sun Track & Field Weekly Awards, while Kennesaw State’s Piotr Witczak picked up the Owls’ third-straight track honor and USC Upstate’s Perrish Goggins took the men’s field athlete award.
MEN’S TRACK ATHLETE OF THE WEEK:
Piotr Witczak, Kennesaw State (Distance – Sr. – Warsaw, Poland – International Business)
• Second Career A-Sun Outdoor Track Athlete of the Week award
• Broke school record in 1,500-meter run by three seconds
• Finished in sixth place in race at Auburn Tiger Track Classic
• Time ranks as second-best in A-Sun and 59th in the nation
WOMEN’S TRACK ATHLETE OF THE WEEK:
Ecaterina Gheorghiu, UNF (Distance – So. – Iasi, Romania – Communications)
• First Career A-Sun Track Athlete of the Week award
• Claimed the 3,000m steeplechase title at the Florida Relays
• Her time of 10:30.38 broke the school record for the second-straight week
• Ranks 12th in the nation in the event and tops in A-Sun by 42 seconds
MEN’S FIELD ATHLETE OF THE WEEK:
Perrish Goggins, USC Upstate (Jumps – Jr. – Columbia, S.C. – Information Management and Systems)
• Second Career A-Sun Outdoor Field Athlete of the Week award
• Broke his own school records in the long and triple jump
• Distance of 23’1.75 in long jump bested previous mark by half an inch
• Leaped 45’10.75 in triple jump to improve school record by 7.5 inches
WOMEN’S FIELD ATHLETE OF THE WEEK:
Ann Demi, UNF (Throws – So. – Jacksonville, Fla. - Business)
• First Career A-Sun Field Athlete of the Week award
• Turned in two fifth place finishes at USF Collegiate Meet in discus and hammer throw
• Broke her own school record in hammer throw with distance of 141’
• Tossed the discus 125’9
