MACON, Ga. - USC Upstate's Kenneth Sugishita and North Florida's Cameron Dickerson won the Atlantic Sun Men's Outdoor Track and Field Athlete of the Week honors, announced Wednesday by the league office. Sugishita broke an Upstate field record for the fourth-straight week, while Dickerson continued his dominance in the 1,500-meter run.
TRACK ATHLETE OF THE WEEK: Cameron Dickerson, North Florida (Jr. – Mid-Distance – Jacksonville, Fla. – Mechanical Engineering)
- First Career A-Sun Outdoor Track Athlete of the Week Honor
- Clocked a 3:48.44 in the 1,500m at the Florida Relays
- Crossed the finish line in fith place (fourth amongst collegiate competitors)
- Owns fastest time in conference in the event
OTHER NOMINEES:
- Gilbert Kemboi (Jr., USC Upstate) – Set program record in 5,000m with time of 14:16.66 at Duke Invitational
FIELD ATHLETE OF THE WEEK: Kenny Sugushita, USC Upstate(Jr. – Throws – Arroyo Grande, Calif.)
- Fourth Career Field Athlete of the Week award; fourth of the season
- Set program record in hammer throw for fourth-straight week
- Tossed hammer 190'9 at the Auburn Tiger Track Classic
- Finished fifth at the meet in the event
- Ranks 64th in the nation in the hammer throw
OTHER NOMINEES:
- David Shepherd (So., North Florida) – Finished eighth at Florida Relay in pole vault with height of 16'8.75
- Jason Johnson (Jr., ETSU) – Finished second in the triple jump at Tennessee Challenge with distance of 14.73m
