Spartan Pair Collect A-Sun Track & Field Weekly Accolades

MACON, Ga. - USC Upstate's duo of Cameron Thomas and Kenny Sugishita collected Atlantic Sun Track and Field Weekly Honors as announced by the conference on Wednesday.

Thomas recorded a time of 1:51.31 in the 800m to rank 19th nationally this season, while Sugishta took home two golds this weekend.

TRACK ATHLETE OF THE WEEK:
Cameron Thomas, USC Upstate
(Sr. – Distance – Niceville,Fla. – History)
  • First Career Track Athlete of the Week award
  • Earned a first-place finish in the 800m at the Beynon Sports Surface Catamount Classic
  • Crossed the line with a school record time of 1:51.31
  • Currently holds the best time in the A-Sun in the 800m this season and ranks 19th nationally
FIELD ATHLETE OF THE WEEK:
Kenny Sugishita, USC Upstate
(Sr. – Throws – Arroyo Grande, Calif. – Accounting)
  • Third Career Field Athlete of the Week award; first this outdoor season
  • Collected two first-place finishes at the Beynon Sports Surface Catamount Classic
  • Recorded a winning tosses of 50.31m in the discus
  • Won the hammer throw with a heave of 57.33m
  • Both marks rank second in the A-Sun this season
OTHER NOMINEES:
  • Michael Lockhart (Sr., ETSU) – Recorded a first-place finish in the long jump with a leap of 7.05m
