Macon, Ga. -- After putting forth great performances at the 2006 Atlantic Sun
Championships, Gardner-Webb's Cody MacArthur (Simi Valley, Calif.) and Belmont's
Collin Magut (Kitale, Kenya) were named A-Sun Athletes of the week today by
the conference office.
MacArthur was Most Outstanding Field Performer of the meet, winning the discus
title on Saturday after smashing a league record in the hammer on Friday. He
hurled the disc 149’2” to pace another three-man sweep in that event, as Michael
Buckshaw and Matt Knippen followed close behind. MacArthur also took fourth
in the shot put, and finished second in the javelin.
Magut was named the championship’s Most Outstanding Track Performer after winning
the A-Sun 1500 meter and 5000 meter titles. He is the first Belmont athlete
to be honored with this award since Chris Martland won it in 2003.
The Atlantic Sun Athlete of the Week is announced every Wednesday during the
2006 outdoor track season.
The 11-member league headquartered in Macon, Ga., consists of Belmont, Campbell,
ETSU, Florida Atlantic, Gardner-Webb, Jacksonville, Kennesaw State, Lipscomb,
Mercer, North Florida and Stetson.
