Macon, Ga. -- Gardner-Webb's Cody MacArthur recorded two top-six finishes and
broke the school record in the hammer throw at the Duke Invitational en route
to earning his second career A-Sun Athlete of the Week nod, league officials
announced today.
MacArthur, a senior communications major from Simi Valley, Calif., earned a
fifth place finish with a throw of 170-4 (51.91m) in the hammer throw, establishing
a new Gardner-Webb record. He also finished sixth in the discus with an effort
of 149-2 (45.46m).
The award is the second of his outdoor career, having last been honored on
April 19, 2006.
The Atlantic Sun Athlete of the Week is announced every Wednesday during the
2007 track season.
The 12-member league headquartered in Macon, Ga., consists of Belmont, Campbell,
ETSU, Gardner-Webb, Jacksonville, Kennesaw State, Lipscomb, Mercer, UNF and
Stetson with Florida Gulf Coast and USC Upstate beginning competition in 2007-08.
