CHAPEL HILL, N.C.—Sam Tilly turned in the nation’s fourth best long
jump leading Campbell at the Carolina Fast Times Saturday in Chapel Hill. Tilly’s
school record jump of 25-02.75 feet was good for first place and is over a foot
better than his previous best. Alicia Valtin qualified for the NCAA Regionals
in the 1500m race with a personal-best 4:27.25 at the Sea Ray Relays in Knoxville,
Tenn.
Kansas’ Barrett Saunders leads the nation with his jump of 25-09.75 on
April 6, Tone Belt from Louisville is second with a jump of 25-09.00 feet and
O’Darien Bassett from Troy is third with a jump of 25-08.75 feet.
Tilly also set a personal-best 48-00.50 foot jump in the triple jump for a
second place finish. His mark is over three feet better than his previous career-best
of 44-07.50 feet.
Valtin finished 11th among collegiate runners in the 1500m race hosted by the
University of Tennessee. The 1500m is the second event that Valtin has qualified
for, she has posted two NCAA qualifying marks in the 3000m steeplechase.
