Macon, Ga. -- For the third time this season and the second time in as many
weeks, Campbell's Sam Tilly has been selected as the Atlantic Sun Athlete of
the Week, league officials announced today.
Tilly, a junior from Port Charlotte, Fla., captured a second-place finish at
the International Freedom Games in the 200-meter dash with his A-Sun best time
of 21.68 in the event. The mark also established a new personal best for Tilly.
From the track to the sand pits, Tilly also earned his third long jump competition
of the season with a leap of 24-9 (7.54m). His jump currently stands as the
22nd best in the nation, fourth best in the East Region.
The award is both the third of the season and career for Tilly.
The Atlantic Sun Athlete of the Week is announced every Wednesday during the
2007 track season.
The 12-member league headquartered in Macon, Ga., consists of Belmont, Campbell,
ETSU, Gardner-Webb, Jacksonville, Kennesaw State, Lipscomb, Mercer, UNF and
Stetson with Florida Gulf Coast and USC Upstate beginning competition in 2007-08.
