Macon, Ga. – One of three Belmont runners to qualify for the NCAA Mideast
Region in the 5000-meter run on Sunday, the Bruins’ Kipkosgei Magut established
a new school records and has been selected at the Atlantic Sun Athlete of the
Week, league officials announced today.
Magut, a junior from Kitale, Kenya, competed in the Cardinal Inviational hosted
by Stanford on Sunday. At the event he broke the Belmont record in the 5000-meter
run, finishing the race with a time of 14:02.98. Magut’s time in the event
is currently tops in the A-Sun this season.
The award is the second of its kind for Magut, who was last honored with the
same award on April 19, 2006.
The Atlantic Sun Athlete of the Week is announced every Wednesday during the
2007 track season.
The 12-member league headquartered in Macon, Ga., consists of Belmont, Campbell,
ETSU, Gardner-Webb, Jacksonville, Kennesaw State, Lipscomb, Mercer, UNF and
Stetson with Florida Gulf Coast and USC Upstate beginning competition in 2007-08.
