Macon, Ga. – For the second time this season Gardner-Webb's Cody MacArthur
has been named the Atlantic Sun's Athlete of the Week, league officials announced
today.
MacArthur, a senior from Simi Valley, Calif., competed in poor weather conditions
at the Liberty Twilight Qualifier, but still posted a near-school record mark
in the hammer throw. He also competed in the discus, garnering third place finishes
in each event. In the hammer throw, his best mark measured 169-4 (51.62m) and
his third place toss in the discus flew 141-8 (43.19m).
The award is the third of MacArthur's outdoor career in the A-Sun, and his
second this season.
The Atlantic Sun Athlete of the Week is announced every Wednesday during the
2007 track season.
The 12-member league headquartered in Macon, Ga., consists of Belmont, Campbell,
ETSU, Gardner-Webb, Jacksonville, Kennesaw State, Lipscomb, Mercer, UNF and
Stetson with Florida Gulf Coast and USC Upstate beginning competition in 2007-08.
