MACON, Ga. - On Thursday, the Atlantic Sun Conference announced promotions for two staff members, Sherri Booker to Senior Associate Commissioner for Championships and Sports Administration, and Matt Wilson to Associate Commissioner for Championships and Operations.
Booker, who has been with the conference since 1994, had served most recently as an Associate Commissioner, after a 2004 promotion from her role as an Assistant Commissioner. She also serves as the conference Senior Woman Administrator. Booker represents the A-Sun on the NCAA Championships/Competition Cabinet, and is a member of the Bracket/Format Subcommittee and the Awards/Travel Policies/Bylaw 16 Subcommittee. In addition to her subcommittee work, Booker also serves as the Cabinet liaison to the Division I Women's Softball Committee. She is the primary administrator for numerous conference championships, including women's basketball, women's soccer, volleyball, tennis and softball. She also serves as the liaison for those sports' officiating programs and liaison to the coaches' advisory committees. Booker acts as the conference contact for various standing administrative committees, including the Athletic Administrators Committee, the Sports Policy Committee and the A-Sun SAAC.
"Sherri has been an important part of our administrative team for a number of years now, and she has always been up to the challenge of additional responsibilities," Commissioner Ted Gumbart said. "This promotion reflects her contributions as an experienced senior staff member. She is a dedicated team player who has consistently worked hard for, and on behalf of, our student-athletes and overall athletic programs. We are very proud to announce her well-deserved promotion."
Wilson enters his fourth year with the conference office. His duties include the development of conference schedules for a variety of sports, and serving as liaison to the A-Sun men's basketball, soccer and baseball officiating coordinators. He serves as the championship administrator for several sports, including men's basketball, baseball, golf and track. Wilson also acts as liaison to the A-Sun Tournament Committee and oversees the conference media relations and communications program, including oversight of the A-Sun website and IT operations.
"Matt has been involved with a number of areas since joining our staff, and we are very pleased with his continued growth as an administrator," Gumbart said. "He has consistently increased his duties and this promotion acknowledges the good work he has done and continues to bring to our office and to the membership. We are glad to have Matt as a part of an experienced and dedicated conference staff."
