POTW Johnson Lifts Belmont to First Regular Season Title

MACON, Ga. – Senior Maggie Johnson led Belmont to its first A-Sun regular season title with a pair of wins over the weekend to claim the league’s final Player of the Week award of the 2011 season. The Bruins share the title with Music City rival Lipscomb, but owned the tiebreakers with the Lady Bisons and head into this week’s championship as the top seed.

  • Third career Player of the Week award
  • Sealed regular season title for Bruins with 19 kills at ETSU in finale
  • Ranks third in A-Sun history in career kills
  • Currently leads the A-Sun in kills and points
  • Belmont moved to 20-8 on the season, the only A-Sun program to reach the 20-win plateau


  • Megan Devine (So., ETSU) – Her 23 kills/14 digs versus Lipscomb clinched ETSU’s tourney berth
  • Kaycee Green (Jr., Lipscomb) – Led Lipscomb to a share of regular season title, their third straight
  • Jill Hopper (Fr., FGCU) – Posted 23 kills in five-set win at UNF
  • Monica Sanchez (Jr., Mercer) – Finished regular season with double-double (33 assists/10 digs)
  • Morgan Thomas (Sr., USC Upstate) – 20 kills in two matches
  • Justine Young (Sr., Kennesaw State) – Became first KSU player to eclipse 400 kills in a season
