Rockwell Nets Atlantic Sun Player of the Week

MACON, Ga. – On Monday, the Atlantic Sun Conference announced its first weekly women’s basketball award of the 2009-10 campaign with Amber Rockwell of Belmont named the Player of the Week.
Rockwell, a senior guard, netted a career-high 33 points in Belmont's home opener victory over Central Arkansas. The Tuscaloosa, Ala. native helped the Bruins pick up their third consecutive home opening win with her dominating performance, as Rockwell drilled five three-pointers and played near perfect from the charity stripe, hitting 12 of 14 attempts. campaign with Amber Rockwell of Belmont named the Player of the Week.

Courtney Hawkins, USC Upstate (Sr. - Guard - Greer, S.C. - Communications) – Hawkins posted the fourth double-double of her career and became the 12th player in school history to reach 1,000 career points at USC Upstate, as the Spartans beat North Greenville, 71-48. She posted 13 points and 10 rebounds in the game, hitting a jumper with 2:19 left for her 1,000th career point. The 5-4 guard stands as the shortest player in school history to reach 1,000 career points.
Desarae Johnson, Jacksonville (Sr. - Forward - Sparta, Ga. - Biology) – Johnson recorded her fourth career double-double in the season opener at Wake Forest, tallying a team-high 12 points on 5-of-9 shooting and recording a game-high 13 rebounds. Johnson also had two assists and a block.
Leah McAlister, Lipscomb (So. - Forward - Nashville, Tenn. - Biology) – Throughout the fall Lipscomb Head Coach Frank Bennett has been saying that McAlister has improved significantly in the offseason and in Lipscomb's season opener Friday night, got the chance to prove it as she posted career numbers in seven points and six rebounds in 13 minutes. McAllister’s strong performance led Bennett to give McAlister her first career start on Sunday against Central Arkansas as she dumped in a team-high 12 points and had six rebounds in 28 minutes of action. McAlister also had two assists and two steals.
Adrianne McNally, FGCU (Sr. - Forward - Howell, Mich. - Nursing) – McNally led the Eagles to a 1-1 record last week in the Preseason WNIT as the Eagles handled UTEP, but couldn't hold on to beat New Mexico in The Pit. The Eagles will now play No. 19 Georgia Tech on Saturday, Nov. 21 in a consolation game of the WNIT. For the week, McNally averaged 32.5 minutes, 16.0 points, 4.5 rebounds, and 4.0 assists. She also shot 50-percent (11-of-22) from the field and 75-percent (9-of-12) from the free throw line.
