FORT MYERS, Fla., - Florida Gulf Coast University Athletics Director Carl McAloose announced today that Terry Jo Myers and Jennifer Magley will join the athletics staff on July 1, 2008. Myers has been named Director of Golf Operations/Head Men’s and Women’s Coach, while Magley will be the Head Women’s Tennis Coach and Assistant Academic Advisor for the Eagles.

Myers comes to FGCU after playing for 19 years on the LPGA tour. She had three tournament wins, and has won several awards during the course of her career including the 1997 Ben Hogan Award, the Golf Digest Comeback Player of the Year, and Kiwanis Humanitarian of the Year. She is a national spokesperson for Ortho McNeil Pharmaceuticals, a subsidiary of Johnson and Johnson and for Interstitial Cystitis. She received a Gubernatorial appointment to the Executive Board of the Florida Sports Foundation (FSF). The FSF aids in securing events such as the Super Bowl and Final Fours to the State of Florida. A native of Fort Myers, she and her husband Gary have one daughter (Taylor) who is a freshman at FGCU.

“With tremendous anticipation I look forward to coaching the FGCU Golf Teams, said Myers. “I will approach this opportunity with great care and enthusiasm. I feel I have a wealth of experience on the golf course and in the business community that I can’t wait to share with the student-athletes. I will remain a passionate spokesperson for Interstitial Cystitis and the Florida Sports Foundation further exemplifying that with a winning attitude, hard work, and dedication there are many opportunities for today’s student-athletes. I really look forward to working with Dr. Suttie, who has such an outstanding reputation.”

John Paul Meyer, who has been Assistant Men’s and Women’s Golf Coach since 2002, will be moving to Utah following the season to pursue other opportunities. Dr. Jim Suttie, who has been the head men’s golf coach from the program’s inception in 2000 and currently interim women’s coach will continue coaching both programs as Associate Men’s and Women’s Golf Coach. Suttie, who was the 2000 PGA Coach of the Year and led the FGCU men’s team to a number one ranking in NCAA II, will focus on teaching and recruiting.

“The combination of Terry Jo and Dr. Suttie will give us a coaching combination that is second to none in the country,” said McAloose. “The outstanding experience that each share will give our golfers an experience that very few can have. The first minute I met Terry Jo I felt her passion and enthusiasm for the sport of golf and her commitment to helping our youth grow through the game of golf. We really appreciate the outstanding work John Paul has done for FGCU and wish him the best as he pursues other interests. ”

Magley, who is currently the Associate Women’s Tennis Coach at Wichita State University, comes back to the state of Florida with outstanding credentials. She was the 2005 NCAA number one ranked singles player in the nation, the 2003 number two ranked doubles player, and led the University of Florida to the NCAA National Championship. She is a four-time All American, a four-time ESPN The Magazine Academic All-American, an Arthur Ashe Scholar, a finalist for the 2005 Honda Award, and the 2005 SEC Co-Scholar Athlete of the Year. She graduated Cum Laude from the University of Florida in 2005.
