BUIES CREEK, N.C. – Leigh Mullins, who has experience building programs at both the Division I and junior college levels, has been named head volleyball coach at Campbell University, Director of Athletics Stan Williamson announced Wednesday.
Mullins joins the Fighting Camel staff after serving as Dean of Students at Hopewell Academy in Cary. She was head coach at Northwestern (La.) State University four years (2002-2005) and three seasons at Neosho County (Kan.) Community College (1998-2000).
She replaces Malinda Ashcraft, who moved to a position within the Campbell University NCAA compliance and academic services department after spending five years as head coach.
“We are excited to have Leigh Mullins as part of the Campbell University family,” said Williamson. “Having been the head volleyball coach at Northwestern State and at Neosho County Community College, Leigh brings experience from those places that will be a tremendous boost to Campbell Volleyball. Leigh was a very successful student-athlete in volleyball, basketball as well as track & field and those successes have followed her in her coaching profession. We expect those successes to continue for Leigh at Campbell.”
Mullins led Northwestern State to its three best seasons in 19 years of Southland Conference volleyball competition before leaving in early 2006 to join her husband, Ty, who had been transferred to the Triangle by his employer. She guided the Lady Demons to 25 Southland wins in her four seasons, 22 in the final three, bolstering a program that had only 26 conference wins in its 15 previous seasons in the SLC.
