KENNESAW, Ga. - Kennesaw State women's basketball head coach Colby Tilley has announced the hiring of Chris Carroll to the position of assistant coach with the Lady Owls program. Carroll, an alumnus of the University of Georgia and a native of Pascagoula, Miss., joins the KSU staff after three seasons with the University of Richmond.
"I'm very excited about coming to Kennesaw State," said Carroll. "I'm looking forward to helping to build on what Coach Tilley and the rest of his staff have going."
Carroll has a wealth of experience on the sidelines with successful women's basketball programs. Prior to his work with Richmond in the Atlantic 10 Conference, Carroll was part of the staff at Liberty University. In 2005, the Lady Flames became the second 13th-seed to advance to the Sweet 16 of the NCAA Tournament with wins over Penn State and DePaul.
Carroll worked for three seasons each as an assistant coach at Wyoming and Southern Miss. Working as recruiting coordinator with both schools, Carroll was also named associate head coach at Southern Miss. Five of his recruits at Wyoming are currently ranked in the all-time career record leaders, while six of his recruits at Southern Miss are ranked in the all-time record books.
Truett-McConnell was the site of Carroll's first head coaching job. As head coach, Carroll led Truett-McConnell to an 84-16 record and three straight Top 10 finishes in the NJCAA.
In 1992, Carroll earned a Master of Education from North Georgia College. In 1990, he earned his Bachelor's degree from Georgia.
"We're really fortunate to have Coach Carroll join our staff," said Coach Tilley. "He is well-respected nationally as a recruiter. He will help us in our quest to succeed in Division I."
Carroll is married to the former Leigh Swanson, who played for Coach Tilley at Auburn-Montgomery. The couple has a pair of young sons, Will and Jack.
