Gardner-Webb; Kennesaw State Take Weekly Softball Honors

Macon, Ga. -- Gardner-Webb's Christie Barlow and Kennesaw State's Lisa Lamb earned
Atlantic Sun Softball Player & Pitcher of the Week honors the conference office
announced today.
Barlow led all hitters at the Georgia Tech Buzz Classic with a sizzling .625 batting
average to earn All-Tournament honors after batting .500 with three home runs
and eight RBI in six games. Along with the .500 (6-for-12) batting average, Barlow
posted an eye-popping slugging percentage of 1.417 while getting on base at a
.611 clip and racking up a staggering OPS of 2.028 against the likes of Georgia
Tech, North Carolina State and Miami of Ohio.
Barlow led GWU on the week with eight runs, two doubles, three home runs, 17 total
bases and five walks and averaged one home run for every four at bats and one
extra-base hit in every 2.5 at bats. Barlow reached base a total of 11 times in
her 17 plate appearances on the week.
Barlow will try to stay hot when she leads Gardner-Webb into action on Wednesday.
The Bulldogs will play a pair of games at Liberty, starting at 2:00 pm.
Lamb had an impressive week for the Owls as she helped guide Kennesaw State (12-9)
to a second place finish at the 2006 Charleston Southern Tournament this past
weekend. In five appearances during the week‚ Lamb was over-powering‚ allowing
just 14 hits in 23.2 innings of work. The senior posted a 4-1 record with a miniscule
0.59 earned run average as she defeated Eastern Michigan‚ St. Bonaventure‚ Oakland
and Furman and had a scoreless streak of 22.2 innings.
Lamb becomes the first Kennesaw State softball player to earn a weekly award since
the program joined Division I and the Atlantic Sun Conference.
The Atlantic Sun Conference announces the Player of the Week every Monday during
the 2006 softball campaign.
The 11-member league headquartered in Macon, Ga., consists of Belmont, Campbell,
ETSU, Florida Atlantic, Gardner-Webb, Jacksonville, Kennesaw State, Lipscomb,
Mercer, North Florida and Stetson.
Other Top Performers
Kori Bowser, BEL (Fr. - P/CI - Gilbert, Ariz. - History/Secondary
Education) -- Bowser helped lead the Belmont softball team to a 3-1 finish at
the Frostbite Classic hosted by the University of Kentucky over the weekend. She
hit .417 over the four games, going 5-for-12 with two doubles and two homeruns.
Erica Demers, STET (Fr. - RHP - Miami, Fla. - Undecided) -- Demers led
Stetson in the circle last week going 3-0 with a 0.37 ERA and two shutouts in
19.0 innings of work.
Caitlin Miller, UNF (So. - RF - Yulee, Fla. - Sports Leadership) -- Miller
finished the week with a .500 batting average for the Lady Ospreys going 7-for-14
at the plate with four RBIs, a home run and a .714 slugging percentage.
Keri McKee, KSU (Jr. - 1B - Buford, Ga. - Sociology) -- McKee had a stellar
week, going .586 in the Owls nine games. In her 27 AB, she recorded 17 hits, including
two doubles, a triple, and a home run. In total, McKee amassed 10 RBI, recorded
a .828 slugging percentage and took 24 total bases, in leading the Owls to a 7-2
record during the week.
