Gardner-Webb's Looper and Campbell's Weaver Take Player and Pitcher Awards

Macon, Ga. -- Gardner-Webb's Abbie Looper (Charlotte, N.C.) and Campbell's
Kelly Weaver (Locust Grove, Ga.) each earned Atlantic Sun Player & Pitcher of
the Week honors for the first time this season as announced today by the conference
office.
Looper led Gardner-Webb to a 2-2 mark in conference action this week with a
.667 batting average in 15 at bats. Looper also posted team bests with 10 hits,
11 total bases, and five stolen bases in five attempts. GWU's leadoff hitter
sparked the GWU offense by getting on base at a .688 percent clip while slugging
.733.
Looper was even better in GWU's two victories as she went a near perfect, 7-for-8,
from the plate with three runs, three RBI, a double and three steals in wins
over Belmont and Lipscomb. For the season, Looper is batting a robust .392 while
also topping the roster with 38 hits and 13 stolen bases.
Weaver was a perfect 2-0 on the week allowing just one earned run in 17 1/3
innings of work for a 0.40 ERA. She improved her A-Sun record to 3-1 on the
season with victories over Lipscomb and Belmont this week coupled with her win
over Florida Atlantic last week; she has allowed just five earned runs in her
four A-Sun starts over 28.0 innings of work. The junior southpaw walked just
three batters all week en route to winning her career-high 11th game of the
season.
The Atlantic Sun Conference announces the Player of the Week every Monday during
the 2006 softball campaign.
The 11-member league headquartered in Macon, Ga., consists of Belmont, Campbell,
ETSU, Florida Atlantic, Gardner-Webb, Jacksonville, Kennesaw State, Lipscomb,
Mercer, North Florida and Stetson.
Other Top Performers
Kori Bowser, BEL (Fr. - P/CI - Gilbert, Ariz. - History/Secondary
Education) -- Bowser finished the week with a .462 batting average after going
6-for-13 with one double, one homerun, one stolen base and four RBI. Inside
the circle, the Gilbert, Ariz., native threw 12 innings over two games and finished
with a 1.75 ERA.
Briana Knight, ETSU (So. - 2B - Brier, Wash. - Biology)
-- Knight led the team with a .526 average in 19 at batsand recorded 10 hits on the week, including 3-for-4 performances against
Western Carolina and Winthrop.
Jennifer Nolan, KSU (Jr. - 3B - Woodstock, Ga. - Exercise
& Health Science) -- Nolan drove in five of the Owls eight runs and hit two
home runs. She finished the two games with a .571 average and had three extra
base-hits and three runs scored. Sara Meek, LIP (Sr. - RHP - Brentwood, Tenn. - Marketing)
-- Meek pitched three games for the Lady Bisons posting a 2-1 record, all on
the road. In 21.2 innings Meek struck out 24 batters, allowed only three runs,
11 hits and six walks.
Katie Rosentreter, MER (Sr. - P - Winnipeg, Manitoba. - Business) --
Was dominant in the circle and at the plate. Against JU she allowed only two
batters to reach second base. In a 14-inning marathon against UNF, she left
with a no-decision.
Caitlin Miller, UNF (So. - RF - Yulee, Fla. - Sports Leadership) --
Miller hit .500 this week in helping lead the Lady Ospreys to a 3-1 mark. For
the week she had three RBIs, three doubles, three runs, three walks and on top
of that did not strike out at the plate or commit an error in the field.
