KENNESAW, Georgia – In a history making afternoon at the Bobbie Bailey Athletic
Complex, Lisa Lamb and Brittany Matthews threw back-to-back no-hitters as the
Owls swept Gardner-Webb, 7-1 and 8-0 on Saturday afternoon.
In the storied history of Kennesaw State softball, today marked the first time
that the Owls threw no-hitters in both games of a doubleheader. Lamb was nearly
perfect in the opener, but a pair of second inning errors by shortstop Amanda
Malcom and third baseman Jen Nolan gave the Bulldogs their only run of the day.
Matthews, on the other hand, again recorded a double-digit strikeout performance.
Once again however, she had her attempt at the single-game strikeout record stopped
as Malcom delivered a game-ending, walk-off, run-rule grand slam. The sophomore
was nearly perfect as she cruised through the first innings before walking Lindsey
Whitfield with one out in the fifth inning.
