ETSU's Gaynord and Mercer's Rosentreter Earn Weekly Softball Awards

Macon, Ga. -- ETSU's Stephanie Gaynord (Manassas, Va./Marketing) and Mercer's Katie Rosentreter (Winnipeg, Manitoba/Business) Player and Pitcher of the Week honors as announced today by the conference office.

Gaynord is the second Lady Bucanneer to earn Player of the Week after hitting .500 in a 3-1 week against Belmont and Gardner-Webb. She was 7-of-14 from the plate, had five RBI's, five runs scored and three homeruns, bumping her team-leading total to eight. Gaynord recorded three two-hit games for the week, had only one error while playing shortstop in all four games and one stolen base.



In 26 innings, Rosentreter gave up only one earned run, which was against No. 9 Georgia while on the road. She surrendered 13 hits and had 22 strikeouts, bringing her career record to over 700. Rosentreter held batters to a .144 average on the week and posted a 0.27 ERA.

From the plate, Rosentreter hit .400 and was 8-for-20. She had three RBI's and a double. Rosentreter has also been selected to the Softball Canada Elite team.

The Atlantic Sun Conference announces the Player of the Week every Monday during the 2006 softball campaign.

The 11-member league headquartered in Macon, Ga., consists of Belmont, Campbell, ETSU, Florida Atlantic, Gardner-Webb, Jacksonville, Kennesaw State, Lipscomb, Mercer, North Florida and Stetson.

Other Top Performers

Lauren Caviness, CAM (So. - LHP - Fuquay-Varina, N.C. - Pre-Pharmacy) -- Caviness won her only appearance of the week allowing just an earned run, while striking out a career-high 11 batters.

Brittany Matthews, KSU (So. - LHP - Brooks, Ga. - Undecided) -- Matthews helped KSU to a 2-0 record and a non-conference sweep of UNF. In game one, the lefty threw a complete game, allowing just three Ospreys hits, while striking out six and walking none. For the week, opponents only batted .097against her.

C.J. Martin, MER (Jr. - SS - Woodinville, Wash. - Communications) -- Martin posted a team-high .522 on-base percentage, walking four times and getting hit by a pitch once. Led team with five runs scored, including game-tying run in win over Campbell. Posted a team-leading .500 slugging percentage on the week.
