Stetson's Wiggins and Mercer's Rosentreter Named NFCA All Region Second Team

MACON, Ga.-- The Atlantic Sun Player of the Year Melissa
Wiggins and Pitcher of the Year Katie Rosentreter were both honored
by the southeast region's head coaches and named to the 2006 National Fastpitch
Coaches Association (NFCA) All-Region Second Team.
A senior from Temple Terrace, Fla., Wiggins earned
Atlantic Sun Conference Player of the Year mention after leading the league in
multiple offensive categories. Among A-Sun leaders, the third baseman finished
the season either first or tied for first in batting (.410), hits (77), RBIs (53),
doubles (16), home runs (11), slugging percentage (.691) and total bases (130).
She has set both season and career records in most of these categories at Stetson.
The four-year standout also ended her career first at Stetson in games played
with 228.
This is Wiggins' second consecutive all-region mention
and is a four-time all-conference performer and a school-record six-time A-Sun
Player of the Week. Wiggins graduated from Stetson in May with a degree in Sports
Management.
Rosentreter, a senior, majoring in business went 17-12 with a 1.68 ERA in the
circle, and led the Atlantic Sun Conference in strikeouts with 245. She ranked
third in the A-Sun in wins (17), third in shutouts (six) and third in opponent
batting average (.203).
The
Winnipeg, Manitoba native finished second on the team in batting (.310), second
in slugging percentage (.441), second in hits (45), second in RBIs (26) and
tied for the team lead with three triples.
This is the latest in a long line of honors Rosentreter has received this season.
She was named Atlantic Sun Pitcher of the Week on May 1, and was named A-Sun
Pitcher of the Year and earned a spot on the All-Atlantic Sun First Team. Additionally,
the lefty was named the Virginia “Cowboy” Williamson Senior Female Athlete of
the Year at the Mercer’s annual athletics banquet.
She also secured a spot on the Canada's Elite Team. The team will play together
for the first time as Canada's Elite Team in a mini tour in southern Ontario
versus Team Canada in a two game series on June 18th in Milverton‚ Ontario and
June 19th in Guelph‚ Ontario.
Wiggins and Rosentreter will now be added to the
ballot for All-America voting during the World Series.
